MARCH / April - What challenges / 'ups' are we feeling now? How have peers responded to the group's efforts to 'expand' mindsets? Let's share our wins and work on our challenges! Bring your lunch and a shareable snack:) . I will have some special treats from the Netherlands when I get back with the exchange! LEKKER!

late November - Planning session
Announcement! Great news! A group of students and Madelle Genis went to a COB meeting at Tansley on Wednesday night. After realizing that little is done for teenager refugees...
The Culture Club is going to work with Social Justice - City of Burlington meeting: Madelle, Gershon et Aiman reporting.
After doing the homework, reporting back:
- We will work with the Halton Learning Foundation for funding of the backpacks (Roots packs on sale at Costco) - eta is early January (some paperwork to complete)
- ask Period 2 classes 'fill a pack'! (the paperwork for the Office will be done)
- Aiman, Tooba and Yumna work on announcements (second and third week February)
- Esra, Mehr, Shaaza and Gershon work on Remind - facts about youth refugees (careful - run by Madelle Genis first) . (second and third week February)
- all post 'stats and facts' around the school - Madelle will run off
- divide Period 2 classes by 2s for classroom visits to deliver the new backpack and give lists of how classes might fill the backpacks (January)

Welcome! Why are we here together?
Main Goal: Gain an awareness and appreciation of the many cultures we have here at Pearson! Soooo many in our class! Let's get in touch with each other!
The group's ideas:
-Movies ( all different languages)
-Francophone Film Festival (Jan-Feb)
-FOOD! ( Food fest with music- last Friday of the month)
- Learn lingo/different words in different languages (every two weeks)
- Talk about current events - cultural hotspots? How are our cultures represented in the media?
- What do we each bring with us (family and cultural practises, values)? Similarities and differences? How does that affect YOU as teenagers in Burlington?
- Culture tournament (trivia game at the end of the year)
- South Korea (Zahra and Cam), Spain (Yumna), Japan (Esra), India (Mehr), France (Mlle Genis), Netherlands (Tooba:)), Russia (Gershon), Pakistan (Aiman)
