The Burlington Public Library has many programs that will benefit our students. One that recently caught my eye was the Teen Toastmasters program. Please read about it below (and/or go to the website) and recommend it to your students!
Teen Toastmasters is an 8-week program that helps young people develop communication and leadership skills.
Toastmasters believes that every young person has the potential to be a good communicator and leader—it just needs to be developed.
As a Toastmaster participant, you'll learn how to prepare and present a speech, conduct meetings, and give evaluations. You'll also develop effective listening skills. By the end of the eighth session, you'll have communication skills that are extremely important in today's world, and the confidence to use them.
The Youth Leadership Program covers a variety of topics that play a part in good public speaking:
• Gestures
• Vocal Variety
• Using Visual Aids
• Speech Organization
• Taking the Terror Out of a Talk
• Effective Speech Evaluation
• Constructing a Speech
• Relating to Your Audience
